Blue Republican Minnesota is proud to announce our endorsement of Jay Nygard- Minnesota Senate Seat 33
Mr. Nygard first caught our attention after his attempt to go green within Minnesota statute. Jay is a Green Entrepreneur who shows the power of combined micro-wind and solar systems to change the world right in his own backyard. Jay’s quiet micro-wind turbines and solar panels produced half of his spacious home’s energy needs year-round in a suburban setting in the extreme Minnesota climate.
His five-year legal battle to keep the largest of the wind turbines, resulted in 5 days in jail of a six-month sentence for failing to remove the non-visible concrete pilings. The ultimate removal of the pilings caused cracks to the foundation of their home. The City of Orono forced Jay and his wife to remove the largest of the turbines even though “…a 1995 Minnesota law gives any person in Minnesota the right to harvest the wind.” The Nygards currently have three smaller turbines and photovoltaic solar system on their property. They continue to challenge local government so that they and others can produce their own clean energy.
Jay impressed us when he stood up to the City of Orono when they violated state law. He was not intimidated by jail time and harassment. Jay did this for his own family as well as others who can’t always stand up to tyranny or oppression.
Minnesota Senate 33 Candidate
Jay’s experience inspired him to take his love of green power, individual rights and freedom to a new level. Jay ‘s resolve ensures that no American should suffer similar injustices, “If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. We need to ensure that we are not using our jails and prisons to harass and intimidate our citizens over property issues.” This is the type of civil disobedience our country needs more of to protect everybody’s rights. Jay will extend this advocacy of individual rights for those who cant easily protect themselves from the powerful. Jay has shown time after time his commitment to protecting the environment, his own rights and those of others who are not able to stand up when their own rights are violated.
